People often ask us whether Carte can save them from all the waiting for appointments and next steps in health care. Yes, we can save you time. But it’s not in the way you expect.
Of course we make calls to doctors and clinics we know personally. The list of practices, trainers, and scientists we trust from experience has grown as our practice has, now spanning four time zones across continents.
But by and large, we are still starting from scratch with every new client. And we plan to keep doing so, not shoehorning everyone into the same network of friendly specialists: I’ll explain why.
The shortest meeting is the one that never happens
Reframed for medicine, the shortest wait time is the one eliminated completely. We could reduce a 6-month wait to see a specialist to a week, or we could determine whether a specialist has enough to offer to merit a meeting in the first place.
With every client, we start with the health circumstances of the person in front of us and prioritize organ systems, behavior changes, and testing unique to them. Selective action avoids mission bloat from a default menu.
The templated alternative, what happens at executive physicals and one-size-fits-all subscription test companies, is a lot of stuff you don’t need, and a lack of targeted spending where you do need it.
We separate answers from appointments
Carte has contracted with leading specialists to review our cases. We pay them directly, with no financial incentive for them to push a surgery or referral. This lets us really kick the tires on proposed treatments and testing before committing client time.
The toughest problems in medicine cross disciplines and aren’t standard knowledge among all doctors. Intensive up front diligence for the right experts in these cases is key to avoid dead ends and hard-to-correct mistakes.
This is how we save clients the most time. They ask us a question, we do our research and consult our specialists. And then we give them an answer directly! Sometimes it’s falling short to make appointments earlier. Good doctors do better to make appointments disappear.
Showing up and giving a sh%t
Finally, when we start from scratch with every client, we get to know your world. The existing parts of your medical infrastructure, your routines, your preferences.
We invest in custom support for that world. Carte lead physicians develop personal connections with whoever is taking care of our clients, from their home aides to their world-renowned specialists, and connect the dots between each client’s unique healthcare team.
Your dedicated admin will manually make sure all records are with you and seen by the collaborating specialists who need it, while your lead physician will review every note and result, often over a live call that captures key details physicians don’t write down.
